Established in 1871 Newnham College is one of the most historic parts of the University of Cambridge.
Walters and Cohen architects were commissioned to design a building that not only complements the existing Champleys buildings around it but to make a strong statement about the colleges future aspirations.
SDC building contractors were appointed by the College to build the new Dorothy Garrod Building.
This new element of the college provides both research and teaching facilities as well as an impressive portfolio of accommodation.
With the brief set, C.A.T. were specified to provide flooring profiles that would meet the designer's vision.
C.A.T. were then asked to manufacture a bespoke section a 50 x 50mm aluminium angle with a 6mm antique brass cap for installation against a set of particularly large gauge stone blocks. A key element of the design in the Porters Lodge main entrance.
A host of other stainless steel profiles were chosen for their hard wearing and stylish characteristics. All of which provide a high-quality detail to the flooring that is mirrored throughout this fantastic building.
