CAT Floor Cover Plates

CAT Flooring Cover Plates are manufactured in Brass, Aluminium and Stainless Steel. These door thresholds are designed to bridge the expansion gap between two floor coverings such as oak flooring, LVT or carpet cover plates. These trims are available in a range of high-quality finishes including Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Satin Aluminium, Polished Aluminium and many more.

CAT manufacture cover plates with two fixing options. The first of which is the Stick-fix option. These floor trims are manufactured with self-adhesive tape pre-applied to the underside allowing for rapid installation with no risk of drilling into the subfloor. The second option is center or offset drilled allowing for a mechanical fixing directly to the subfloor.

Commercial cover plates are also available in a range of sizes and are designed up to 135 mm wide sometimes referred to as extra wide threshold strips. These cover plates are commonly used in hospitals, shopping centres, airports and many other commercial areas.

The majority of these threshold cover plates are available in 2.715 m lengths which cater for most doorways and corridors reducing the number of joins required. The heavy-duty commercial cheque plate trims such as ACHP80 are manufactured in 2.00 m lengths and are also available with or without a PVC Packer for added strength.

FAQs

What is a Flooring Cover Plate?

Flooring cover plates are referred to as many different things in the flooring industry. Flooring fitters will call them door thresholds, door bars, door trims, threshold strips and many other names. A flooring cover plate is simply a piece of pre-finished metal extrusion used predominantly in doorways to cover the expansion gap or cut edge of floor coverings. These cover plates protect the edge whilst providing a high-quality finish to match or contrast with the room's decor.

Which material is best?

Our cover plates are available in brass, aluminium or stainless steel. Aluminium cover plates are used in residential or light commercial projects. The CAT Solid Brass cover plates are used in prestigious or period projects such as listed properties or theatres. Stainless Steel cover plates are generally used in high traffic and heavy-duty scenarios such as hotels and other commercial projects.

What Size and Shape do I choose?

The choice of cover plates is hinged on what floor coverings are being used and the finished style desired. The size of the expansion gap will dictate how large a threshold you will need. For example, an oak floor with an expansion gap of 10 mm may require a 38 mm or 55 mm cover plate such as the AC38 or BC55. If the floor covering is an LVT such as Amtico or Karndean then a smaller trim such as the BC28 may suit better. Please consult with your flooring contractor if you are unsure which CAT Trim will suit your requirements.
